Whitechapel’s Dead Body Train
According to the folklore surrounding the London Underground, a clandestine train is said to have operated in the early 1900s, traversing the underground tunnels at Whitechapel. This train was said to be responsible for transporting deceased individuals from The Royal London Hospital to a mysterious location that remains unknown to this day. The tunnel through which it ran has since been sealed off. Additionally, there are assertions that an underground passage once connected to a hidden morgue at Whitechapel Station, which has also been closed off. During the Victorian and Edwardian eras, London was plagued by poverty and disease, leading to hospitals being overwhelmed with corpses. Given this context, the existence of a body train and a temporary underground morgue is highly plausible. Furthermore, it is rumored that, in the past, vacant rooms beneath the ticket hall at Whitechapel were occasionally utilized as a morgue.
