The Basano vase is a pretty vase cast from silver. It was created in the 15th century and produced in a simple design. It is said to be one of the most mysterious and cursed objects in the world. Unfortunately there isn’t much of a back story to the curse, nobody alive today knows why so many people perished because of the vase. Originally the vase was a wedding present for an Italian couple. They lived in a small village not far from Napoli. The night of the wedding the bride was found convulsing on the floor. It was clear that she was dying. Her hands were wrapped tightly around the silver vase. Before she died, in her last breath she vowed her revenge. It’s uncertain that whether or not the vase was already cursed and sent as threat to which the bride succumbed to the shock, or the events of the brides demise that night is what caused the chain of events that followed. We don’t know the brides names so the, the exact details have been lost in time. The vase was passed on from person to person within the bride family but each person who owned the vase came to a mysterious end. The family decided to hide the vase away in a secret location in orderer to save the rest of their family members. It was either buried in consecrated soil or stashed in the family home somewhere. Eventually someone found the vase in 1988. It was examined and a piece of paper was found hidden inside. It read “Beware, this vase brings death” The warning was ignored and written off as nonsense as the vase was to taken to an auction house. It sold for 4million lira. Deaths soon followed as the vase made its way back into circulation. A pharmacist was the first buyer, he died three months later in mysterious circumstances. Then a 37 year old surgeon who bought the vase died two months after that. Again the vase was resold, this time to an archaeologist who was most impressed by its example of beautiful high renaissance work. He died three moths later. After his death the vase gained a frightening reputation. The archaeologist’s family had trouble selling it on for the asking price. However is was sold on again and the new owner died not long afterwards. Stories of the curse were now well circulated and so the vase became unsellable. An enraged family member of the vase’s recent victim, angrily threw the vase out of the window. The vase hit a passing policeman on the head, he was injured but his injuries warn’t fatal. He returned the vase and issued the person who threw it with a ticket for disorderly behaviour. The owner refused to take the vase back. The local police tried to the pass it on to museums but none of them would take it. The vase remained in police custody. There are many speculations as to where the vase is now. Some believe it was buried while other believe it was hidden in a cemetery in an unmarked grave but nobody really knows it’s whereabout. If you happen to stumble upon it, leave it be!
